Why Bootstrap Dropped IE 9 Support? And Why Opted Flexbox?

Bootstrap is the top front-end web framework for building websites. It includes everything needed to make sites fast.

The Bootstrap team just put out Bootstrap 4 alpha 6, which is the last alpha version. Now, they are moving on to beta versions of Bootstrap 4. Alpha 6 includes many new features, better parts, and fixes for problems.

Bootstrap 4 no longer works with Internet Explorer 9

With alpha 6, the Bootstrap team stopped supporting Internet Explorer 9. The main reason for this is Bootstrap's new design. Bootstrap 4 now uses flexbox layout by default, which old browsers like Internet Explorer 9 cannot handle.

Why did Bootstrap choose Flexbox?

To use flexbox as the main layout, the Bootstrap team had to stop supporting IE9. Here's why Bootstrap picked the Flexbox layout:

Flexbox is the most adaptable way to line up items up and down or side to side. Flexbox allows for upright positioning. Beyond positioning, Bootstrap 4's Flexbox layout now provides cards of the same height and width. It also includes navigation that fills the space evenly, button groups that do the same, automatic spacing, and many other improvements. Most Bootstrap parts now use flexbox for better display.
