The Garmin Fenix 8 Pro is officially released, a smartwatch that can send SMS and make calls via satellite.

Garmin has once again introduced the latest innovation in its smartwatch line. The American manufacturer officially launched the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro smartwatch, which offers satellite communication features, allowing users to send SMS and make calls even without a cellular signal.

As the successor to the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro released in 2023, this smartwatch brings several significant improvements. One of these is support for InReach technology, a satellite service that enables ongoing communication in remote or unconnected locations. This feature has made the Fenix 8 Pro much talked about in the tech world.

Garmin also equips this device with a MicroLED display on select variants. This technology makes the screen much brighter, even in direct sunlight. This allows users to comfortably view notifications, maps, or health information outdoors.

Advanced Communication Features

The Garmin Fenix 8 Pro smartwatch can send and receive two-way SMS messages, using both LTE-M and InReach satellite networks. LTE-M is known to be more energy efficient than regular LTE and can be used for Garmin Messenger services, including real-time location sharing. When an LTE-M signal is unavailable, the device automatically switches to InReach satellites.

Health and Sports Support

As is traditional with Garmin, the Fenix 8 Pro is equipped with comprehensive health sensors. This device offers everything from heart rate monitoring and sleep quality monitoring to hundreds of sport modes. High-precision GPS also remains a key feature for outdoor activities.

Battery Life

The Garmin Fenix 8 Pro comes in several sizes. The 51mm version with a MicroLED display can last up to 4 days with the Always-On Display feature active. The 47mm OLED model can last up to 8 days, and the 51mm variant can even last up to 15 days.

Premium Price

Globally, the Fenix 8 Pro is priced from US$1,200 (approximately Rp 19.7 million) to US$2,000 (approximately Rp 32.9 million) for the MicroLED variant. There is currently no official information on when this device will be available in Indonesia.

Garmin Smartwatch Alternatives

For Indonesian consumers, Garmin still offers the regular Fenix 8 series with an AMOLED display, priced at IDR 22 million. Other options include the more affordable Garmin Venu X1 and a dedicated sleep-tracking smartband.
