What is lifestyle medicine?
The medical field has a specialized branch known as lifestyle medicine that employs lifestyle interventions to treat chronic ailments like obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Clinicians certified in this field are equipped to prescribe lifestyle changes that are evidence-based and holistic to treat such conditions. By focusing on six pillars including a nutrient-rich, plant-based diet, physical activity, restful sleep, stress management, the avoidance of harmful substances, and healthy social connections, lifestyle medicine is an effective preventive measure against these conditions. Julia Hill, MD, DipABLM, and Amber Kirtley-Perez, PA, DipACLM are among the certified practitioners of lifestyle medicine.
