The Online AA degree program is hosted at Leeward Community College and supported by the University of Hawai`i Community College system.

The Online AA degree program is an Associate in Arts (AA) in Liberal Arts degree program offered fully-online with accelerated courses. An AA degree can also be used to establish a solid foundation to pursue a bachelor’s degree in the future.

What Students Should Expect from the Online AA Degree Program:

  • Life in Full-Time, School in Part-Time: Students can focus on one 5-week online asynchronous course per semester, taking three classes in total. This program allows for flexibility, so students can work full-time/part-time or even raise children while working towards their degree. Check out a Sample Online AA Degree Plan.
  • Complete Online Learning Experience: Students enrolled in this fully-online degree program are not required to submit state health clearances and will have access to all courses, administrative processes, tutoring services, communication with instructors and counselors, etc. online. There’s no need to visit any of our campuses!
  • General Education: The courses in this program meet UH's general education requirements (English, math, history, social sciences, and natural sciences) and are available through all UH community colleges. Each semester, some courses are available in the 5-week online format. However, if you plan on pursuing pre-nursing, pre-education (teaching), or any STEM-related fields, this program may not be the best fit for you since these programs may have specific requirements that are not available in this accelerated format.
  • This program is an excellent fit for those seeking to fulfill general education requirements, as well as students interested in pursuing business or psychology/social sciences. It offers a well-rounded education that caters to a diverse range of needs.
  • Individualized academic counseling is provided to every student, ensuring that their unique needs and goals are met from admission to graduation. This personalized approach guarantees that students are on the right path for their individual goals.
  • Whether you are exploring academic and career options or have a specific bachelor's degree in mind, this program is designed to help you earn a transfer-ready degree. Completing general education requirements and obtaining an AA Liberal Arts degree is an ideal way to prepare for major-specific courses and future transfer to a 4-year institution.

Students are encouraged to explore the online bachelor's degree programs offered through UH.

Instructions for Enrolling in the Online AA Degree Program:

  1. Submit Application: As the Online AA program is offered by Leeward CC, new students must first submit an application to the college. On the online application, select the term you intend to start classes and indicate “Liberal Arts (Online) - Associate of Arts” as your major. Once accepted, you will receive an email notification.
  2. Attend Orientation & Advising: Regardless of being in the Online AA program, all students are required to attend New Student Orientation (NSO) and Incoming Student Advising (ISA). During the ISA session, students will discuss their objectives and create an academic plan that will determine their initial courses in the Online AA program.
  3. Pay Tuition/Fees: Once registered for courses with the help of an academic counselor, students must pay all tuition and fees by the designated deadlines. The payment process can be completed online via MyUH Services. Refer to the Cost of Attendance/Tuition details for more information.

For those who are new to online learning, we suggest taking part in the Introduction to Online Learning program. While it is not mandatory for students enrolled in this course, it is an excellent opportunity to become acquainted with Laulima (the digital platform that will host your classes) and gain more insight into being an online college student. This will allow you to be better prepared before starting your initial 5-week online course! Check out the Introduction to Online Learning information and apply for access!
